Silver City, NM – To strengthen and expand access to orthopedic care, Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) is integrating Southwest Bone and Joint Institute (SBJI) into its health system. This transition enhances GRMC's existing orthopedic clinic and ensures patients across southwest New Mexico continue to receive comprehensive, high-quality musculoskeletal care. The transaction is expected to be finalized no later than January 15, 2026.
GRMC leadership, including CEO Robert Whitaker and HR Director Aimee Summers, has met with SBJI employees and practitioners to review the transition process and support a smooth integration. "I am excited that the GRMC Board of Trustees has approved this transition," said Whitaker. "Dr. Brian Robinson, Rick Lemke, PA-C, Dr. Sravanthi Reddy, and all the clinicians and staff of SBJI are exceptional professionals. It is our privilege to welcome them to the GRMC team."
Founded in 1999 by Dr. Robinson, Southwest Bone and Joint Institute has earned a reputation for delivering highly skilled, compassionate musculoskeletal and orthopedic care. SBJI currently offers a full range of orthopedic services, including joint replacement, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, orthopedic trauma, hand and ankle surgery, and physical and rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Robinson stated, "I returned to my hometown 26 years ago to build an orthopedic clinic dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care, and I look forward to our next chapter as we continue focusing on providing the very best orthopedic care for our patients."
By expanding its orthopedic services through this integration, GRMC will offer patients greater access to specialized care close to home. This collaboration ensures continuity of care, a broader range of treatment options, and the same trusted providers, now supported by the resources of the GRMC health system. This effort reflects GRMC's mission of "Providing exceptional quality, patient-centered care in healing environments."
