On June 9, 2025, Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) formally notified the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging that, effective August 9, 2025, it will no longer provide Older Americans Act services (senior services) at its sites in Gila, Mimbres, Santa Clara and Silver City, in Grant County, New Mexico.

The Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging oversees senior programs throughout NM, outside of Bernalillo County. The Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging is taking the following steps to maintain its commitment to older adults in Grant County:

Working to secure a new service provider to replace HMS in managing the Gila, Mimbres, Santa Clara and Silver City sites. We will announce the new provider as soon as a commitment is obtained.

Encouraging existing HMS staff at the Gila, Mimbres, Santa Clara and Silver City sites to apply for employment at their respective senior centers once the new provider is identified. Retaining experienced staff on the ground is the key to a successful transition.

Training the new provider's management team, as well as new and existing staff.

Working directly with local elected officials at the county and municipal levels, as well as with the Southwest NM Council of Governments, to understand and address local concerns during the transition.

Working in coordination with the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department to ensure a successful transition.

Holding informational and listening sessions at the Grant County sites in the upcoming weeks. Notice of these sessions will be posted at local senior centers, and provided through local newspapers and media outlets.

Discussions regarding the Ena Mitchell Senior Center in Lordsburg are ongoing. The Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging will provide information as it becomes available.
