The 16th annual Wreaths Across America program for the Fort Bayard National Cemetery is underway.
Members of the Grant County community are invited to remember and honor veterans buried at the cemetery during the Christmas holiday season. Wreath placing will be held on Saturday morning, December 13 at 9:00 (Specific Requests) and 9:30 (General). The WAA Remembrance Ceremony will follow at 10:30.
There will be a change in wreath sponsorship for 2025. WAA at Fort Bayard is registered nationally as a "$5 Forward" plan which replaced the "3 for 2" plan last April. This means for every $17 wreath sponsorship received, $5 will automatically be applied forward to the sponsorship of an additional veteran's wreath at the cemetery. While the "$5 Forward" plan is not as beneficial as the previous "3 for 2", we urge the community to continue to support our wreath program so that every marker can have a wreath placed upon it for the seventh
year in a row.
Unique to Fort Bayard is that local, special requests for wreath placements are honored with this placement guaranteed. Additionally a remembrance program is created and provided, listing each individual being honored with a wreath as well as the name of each wreath sponsor. Wreath order forms may be obtained at local banks, Ace Hardware stores, Suburban (formerly Griffin's) Fuel Center, and Baca's and Terrazas Funeral Homes. They also can be found at facebook.com/FortBayardNationalCemeteryWAA/
