Jumpstart’s 16th annual Read for the Record program
Thursday, October 28, 2021, 10:00am |
The Silver City Library joins with KRWG Public Media in supporting Jumpstart’s 16th annual Read for the Record program. Join us in celebrating literacy by participating in the world’s largest shared reading experience. On October 28 communities across the country and the world will read this year’s book selection “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon,” a Simon & Schuster book by Kat Zhang illustrated by Charlene Chua suitable for 4 to 8-year-old children.
The Read for the Record event seeks to increase awareness of early literacy’s critical impact and to make high quality children’s books accessible for all children. Sharing reading time with children fosters language and social-emotional development. No matter where you live or how old you are, all you need to participate is a copy of the official book or access to a computer with internet.
So, join the Read!
There are many ways you can participate in the Silver City area on October 28. Some of the celebrations include:
- The Silver City Library special live reading for young children at 10:00 a.m. on October 28
- A WNMU’s Mustang Kid’s Club and KRWG Public Media/NMSU live read by WNMU’s first lady Valerie Plame and recorded reading celebrations on the WNMU campus 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Miller Library on the WNMU campus.
- Many elementary and pre-school teachers will be reading the Amy Wu book to their students in their classrooms throughout the day.
- Also, you can join in as well by reading to your child, youngsters in your neighborhood, with a grandchild, or other extended family. The book is available in English and Spanish, and a reading video of the book will be available through the KRWG and WNMU websites on October 28.
