38th annual Gem And Mineral Show Sept. 1-3, 2023

The Grant County Rolling Stones 38th Gem & Mineral Show this weekend has something for everyone. Visitors will find museum and educational displays, a new Pebble Pup activity area, 40 vendors, a variety of food offerings, field trips, a speaker, demonstrations, an hourly silent auction, 2 Wheels of Fortune and daily raffles. The show opens at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center on Friday, September 1 from 11am to 5pm, Saturday, September 2 from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, September 3 from 10am to 4pm.
The Rolling Stones are pleased to announce new additions to their annual gem and mineral show. A fun and educational Pebble Pup activity area, located next to the 25¢ Wheel of Fortune in the Archery Room, features rock painting, a dinosaur information table, mining for Pecos diamonds, face painting, and 3D printed displays from the Future Forge. In the Small Event Room, visitors will find the new $1 Wheel of Fortune. Every spin wins and a cool geode from Shadow Hills Rock Shop will be added as a prize each hour. The daily raffles are another great opportunity to win exciting prizes donated by local businesses, show vendors and Rolling Stones members. Two Free Library Concerts in September

The Silver City Public Library is pleased to announce the return of free library concerts in September. There will be two musical performances in short succession starting with Felix Galanti playing jazz vibraphone on Thursday, September 7, 10:30am-12:00pm, followed by songwriter duo Patty & Craig at the Silco Theater Wednesday, September 13, 4:00pm. The concerts are free thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Library!
Join us as musician Felix KN Galanti brings the smooth sounds of his vibraphone to the Silver City Public Library on September 7, 10:30am. Having played across the country, Galanti brings a vast experience to this one-of-a-kind live show. Versed in nine styles of jazz, listeners can expect to be treated to Brazilian, Latin, Smooth, Fusion, and more! You won’t want to miss this unique performance that has been described as electric. Grant County Community Concert Association presents Key of G Live: a Garth Brooks Tribute
Key of G Live! is a tribute to country superstar, Garth Brooks. The group is led by AJ Bisto on lead vocals and guitar, and backed by a 5-piece band of drums, fiddle, bass, steel guitar, and keys. This concert captures all of the signature sounds that Garth Brooks fans know and love, and pays tribute to the chart-topping artist in classic country music style.

The Adult ticket price is $20. As always children up to age17 who are accompanied by an adult ticket holder are admitted free of charge.
Individual tickets can be purchased online at www.gcconcerts.org as well as in the lobby at the time of the concert. Single concert tickets can also be purchased in advance at the Pink Store on Bullard. Call 575-538-5862 for more information.
Purses For Every Occasion Auction

Join us for a live auction of new, unique and gently used Purses for Every Occasion sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter BR. The auction will be held on September 30 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1915 N. Swan Street. There will be food, fun and fashion with purses on auction and others available for sale. Raffles of unique items from merchants in Silver City will also be available.
P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) raises scholarship funds to help women achieve their educational goals. Previous P.E.O. auctions have provided funding for 11 women from Grant County to pursue further education. This has included graduating high school seniors, students in college seeking to complete their education and women returning to school to complete degrees.

1:00 Welcome and Auction Begins
12:00-3:00 Raffle tickets sold
1:00-3:30 Raffle prizes awarded throughout the auction

Only 100 tickets will be sold. Tickets for the Auction are $10 and are available from Chapter BR members and online. Call Barbara at 575-388-7891 to get a ticket.

9th Annual Holiday Artisan Market

The 9th Annual Holiday Artisan Market will be held the weekend of Dec. 2nd and 3rd at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center next to Ace Hardware on Hwy. 180 East. It will be open from 10 – 4 on Saturday and 11 to 3 on Sunday. There will be a wide range of mediums within the 30 quality juried local artists. Types of fine arts and crafts include painters, jewelers, weavers, gourd artists, soap makers, crocheted items, leatherworkers, photography, pottery, wood workers and garment makers. Some are award winners in their categories.

September 7- Cecil Howard 50 Year Retrospective

Free and open to the public
Cecil taught art in Kansas before accepting a position at Western New Mexico University where he first taught ceramics and basic art and was Director of the Francis McCray Gallery. The development of the Fine Arts program led to a later teaching emphasis on sculpture and painting. He retired in 1994 after 31 years in the Department of Expressive Arts, having been chair for several years.
A recipient of the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1999,
Cecil served on the Capitol Arts Foundation Board of Directors for many years. He has exhibited and received numerous awards in painting, sculpture, and crafts on regional, national, and international levels, and he acted as a juror for several exhibitions in the Southwest.
