GLENWOOD – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish announced the opening of the Glenwood Allred Wildlife Management Area, creating new opportunities for bird-watching enthusiasts in southwest New Mexico.
Glenwood Allred, one of 43 wildlife management areas (WMAs) in the state, is the state's newest WMA. It spans 108 acres and provides expanded birding opportunities and access to adjacent Forest Service lands as well as the San Francisco River.

The opening of the new WMA comes at an ideal time for bird enthusiasts. Birders can take advantage of opportunities at Glenwood Allred WMA in addition to the birding trail at the Department's nearby Glenwood Hatchery.
To access State Game Commission Lands designated for wildlife-associated recreation/GAIN activities, a group of up to four adults must possess at least one hunting license, fishing license, trapping license or Habitat Management and Access Validation, valid for the current license year. Youth under the age of 18 are exempt from license and validation requirements.
A license or validation (HMAV) may be purchased from any Department office or license vendor; by phone at 888-248-6866; or through the Department's Online License System.
The public is reminded to respect private property and not to trespass on neighboring lands.
