Preparing for the 'Silver Tsunami'

June 11, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Preparing for the 'Silver Tsunami' -
The Role of Death Doulas at the End of Life"

Though the vast majority of Americans say that they would like to die at home, few actually do so, primarily due to a lack of planning, but also because of insufficient capacity and resources at the end of life, according to Lisa Jimenez, a certified Death Doula.

On Sunday, June 11, she, and fellow death doula Scott Plate will discuss the role of the doula at the end of life at the 10 am gathering of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, 3845 N. Swan Street. They will also offer suggestions on how anyone can begin now to create their own "good death."

32nd Street Lane Closures Begin Monday, June 5, 2023

32nd streetv1Silver City -- Road improvements on 32nd Street from Swan Street east to Pinos Altos Road begin Monday, June 5, when the two westbound lanes from Silver Street to Fowler will be closed for construction. The $3.5 million project includes new paving, construction of new curb and gutter where needed, replacement and construction of sidewalks, drive-pads, ADA-approved intersections for the physically challenged, drainage improvements at the low water crossing near the high school, signage and striping to include bike lanes. The contractor is Southwest Concrete and Paving Co. of Silver City.

Peter Peña, director of Public Works for the Town of Silver City, said the project will take approximately four months to complete, and lane closures will change as construction progresses, but some lanes will always be open to through traffic. In addition, a new bus shelter will be built on the south side of the street, across from Silver High School. It will be located between the building at the corner and the new recreation center.
