CHARLIE KIRK SHOT 1:16 p.m.
NEW MEXICO-SEPTEMBER 10, 2025, - Statement from the Republican Party of New Mexico on the Shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University
The Republican Party of New Mexico is deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic events that took place today at Utah Valley University, where conservative leader Charlie Kirk was shot during a campus event hosted by Turning Point USA.
According to preliminary reports, a single shot was fired from a nearby building, striking Mr. Kirk. The university has confirmed that the suspect is now in custody, and we are grateful for the swift response by law enforcement to prevent further harm.
We ask all New Mexicans and Americans everywhere to join us in praying for Charlie Kirk, his family, and all those impacted by this horrific act of violence.
This kind of behavior cannot and must not be tolerated—no matter one’s political affiliation. Political violence has no place in our society, and we must stand united in condemning it at every turn.
The Republican Party of New Mexico continues to support free speech, peaceful discourse, and the right of individuals to share their views without fear for their safety.

“On behalf of the New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Charlie Kirk and his family at this time” stated Senator Sharer. “We totally condemn political violence in every form. Our country is founded on the principle of free speech, today’s disgusting actions undermine the very foundation of our democratic republic.”
RGA Chair Brian Kemp Statement on Charlie Kirk’s Death 3:15 p.m.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Governors Association Chair Georgia Governor Brian Kemp released the following statement on behalf of the nation’s Republican governors on the death of Charlie Kirk:
“We are absolutely devastated by the news that America has lost Charlie Kirk.
“Charlie recently said, ‘leave a legacy and be courageous,’ and that’s exactly what he did. Charlie was a true American patriot who started a movement all across America that brought young people into the public square like we haven’t seen in decades. His passion for our nation, for free speech, and for vigorous debate was evident in everything he did and every cause he touched.
“We Republican governors join millions of Americans in mourning Charlie’s death, and our strongest prayers are with his wife Erika and their young children. Charlie taught young people to not only love their country, but to also prioritize faith and family — and that’s how he lived his life.
“Charlie’s horrific assassination is nothing short of evil. Political violence is never the answer, and it must stop. Charlie demonstrated how to debate our differences — through words and through action. His passing leaves a gigantic void in our national dialogue.”
Senate Republican Leader Reacts to Assassination of Charlie Kirk 3:29 p.m.
Santa Fe, NM — Today, political organizer and conservative youth activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University.
Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) reacted to these new developments with the following statement:
“We have people in our country who think that free speech is somehow an existential threat to our democracy. Today, such people executed a man whose only crime was loving God, loving his country, and loving his family.
Yet our republic cannot function without healthy political debate. Shame on those who can’t—or won’t—engage in a civil conversation and instead resort to violence to silence the voices of those they disagree with.”
In Remembrance of Charlie Kirk
NEW MEXICO September 10 -,Today, we mourn the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, a devoted family man, a passionate defender of faith and freedom, and a leader who inspired countless young Americans to stand boldly for God and country. Charlie's message was one of conviction, hope, and dialogue. He spoke with courage, but more importantly, he listened to those around him, meeting people where they were and calling us all to a higher purpose.
Charlie's assassination was not just an attack on him, but on the very principles of free speech and civil discourse. It was an act of cowardice, meant to silence a voice that could not be silenced. Let us honor his memory not by falling deeper into division, but by choosing to reach across the aisle. Today, find someone you disagree with politically and begin a conversation about solutions. That is how we resist hate.
As we remember what Charlie Kirk stood for, let us commit ourselves to becoming better people. Let us work with those who hold opposing opinions, listening with respect and maintaining decorum; just as he encouraged and exemplified in his life.
It was an honor and privilege to have Charlie here in New Mexico just a few short weeks ago. His movement, his faith, and his unwavering stand for truth will not be forgotten.
May his legacy challenge each of us to live with more courage, more grace, and a renewed commitment to being better citizens.
