Cause: Undetermined, but lightning was detected in the area.

Size: 5 acres

Location: Mt. Taylor Ranger District – Zuni Mountains northwest of Quartz Hill.

Resources on Scene: Firefighters from USFS and NM State Forestry.

Strategy: Full suppression

Fire behavior: Low to moderate.

Situation: Fire crews from USFS and NM State Forestry have responded to the Trail Fire on the Mt. Taylor Ranger District. Forward progression has been stopped at approximately 5 acres. Firefighters will remain on scene to continue improving and securing containment lines.

Fuels: Ponderosa pine litter and dead & down.

Values at risk: The Trail Fire is not a threat to any communities, and there are no evacuations in effect.

Smoke: Smoke may be visible west of Grants and Milan, NM in Zuni Mts. An interactive smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/ allows you to zoom into your area to see the latest smoke conditions.

Weather: 9/15 Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 81. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. https://www.weather.gov

This will be the only release on this fire unless conditions or the situation warrants additional information.
