ENMU's Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking is proud to present Lois Lowry's "The Giver," adapted for the stage by Eric Coble.
"The Giver" is an adaptation of the famous Newbery Award-winning book of the same name by Lois Lowry. The beloved story is that of Jonas, a twelve-year-old boy who lives in what seems to be a perfect society whose life changes when he is selected as the community's receiver, the one person in the entire community who holds the memories of all human history. With the help of his mentor, the Giver, Jonas must come to terms with what he thought was his home and how everything changes when he has the whole story.
The entire season at ENMU's Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking is family-friendly. There are some familiar stories like "The Giver" and the Spring production of "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief."
"I read the book 'The Giver' when I was in middle school," says Leonard Madrid, associate professor of theatre. "I am truly excited to bring this to the stage for everyone around ENMU to see."
The cast will perform at ENMU's Main Stage Theatre, University Theatre Center (UTC), Thursday, October 2–Saturday, October 4, at 7 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m. General admission is $10 per ticket.
