(Albuquerque, NM) – More high school students are back in the classroom getting real-world electrical trades experience with the PNM Power Pros program. PNM Power Pros has expanded to include seven additional schools this semester, giving students in New Mexico the opportunity to learn about the electric trades.
The program will now welcome students from Belen High School, Infinity High School, Los Lunas High School, Valencia High School, Mountainair High School, Socorro High School and School of Dreams Academy, courtesy of the UNM Valencia County campus. ACE Leadership High School, Silver City High School and Cobre High School will also be returning for another semester.
"We are proud to see the PNM Power Pros continue to grow," said Don Tarry, CEO of PNM. "Being able to invest in our high school students and give them an opportunity to learn more about the trade, and possibly pursue a career in it, is extremely important. The more youth we can keep here in our state, the better our future will be."
PNM Power Pros includes in-classroom and hands-on training for high school students interested in a technical career in the energy industry. The goal of the program is to give students a pathway to finding rewarding careers that help them choose to live and work in New Mexico. The semester-long program is funded by a $1 million contribution from PNM and developed in partnership with PNM and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Upon graduation from PNM Power Pros, students will receive OSHA 10 certification and high school elective credits.
Over the last five years PNM shareholders along with the PNM Foundation has provided more than $20 million of support to the communities and customers it serves.
