Marcelina Meza, born October 19, 1941, in Lordsburg, New Mexico to Juana Arvizo, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, surrounded by her children Anna Meza, Richard Meza, Louis Meza, and Terri Meza. Marcelina was a resident of Lordsburg, New Mexico for most of her life and a resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico for the past four years.
She devoted herself to the service of children as a cafeteria employee for Lordsburg Public Schools for 23 years. In her retirement Marcelina enjoyed spending her time with her family and all her grandchildren that spanned four generations. In doing so, she always encouraged them to have faith, prayer, and the importance of getting an education. Her sound advice not only echoed for her own family, but for her extended family and friends as well. Marcelina held steadfast to her faith and commitment to her family and friends, always checking in to see how they were doing and if there was anything they needed, or she could do for any of them. She provided comfort and encouragement to all who needed it as well, offering sound advice drawing from her 83 years of life experience
Marcelina was preceded in her passing by her husband of 38 years, Esequiel H. Meza, and her mother Juana Arvizo. She will be reunited with her husband, mother and her sisters, Dalia, Maggie, Ramona, Maria, Estella, Alicia, her brothers, Mike, Rosalio, Isidro, Juan, and Natividad.
She is survived by her sister Julia and brother Rudy. She will be escorted to church by her family and her pallbearers, Manuel Medina Jr., Jesus Borquez, Lorenzo Borquez, Andrew Rodriguez, Dominic Duncan and Joe Mesa. Honorary pallbearers Amber Orozco, Aziaha Rodriguez, Gabriel Medina, Sammy Medina, Isaac Borquez, Milah Medina, Layla Borquez, Anastasia Foster, Matthieu Jimenez and Freddy Martinez. We are comforted that family and friends stayed connected to her either by phone or in person while in retirement. Marcelina will be leaving a legacy of living life to the fullest and knowing that no matter how hard and lean times can and will be, one will never be truly alone as God will always be present. In her memory and for those who wish we encourage, as she would, to continue to have faith, prayer and devotion to the rosary.
Visitations will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 9:30am-10:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (Lordsburg, NM) with the Holy Rosary commencing at 10:30am, recited by Louis Meza. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am, with Father Jude Okonkwo officiating. She will be laid to rest at Shakespeare Cemetery at 12:30pm.
