Celebrate Territorial Charter Day on February 18

Celebrate the anniversary of the enactment of the Territorial Charter of 1878 at the Silver City Museum, 10:30am on Saturday, February 18.

Opening remarks will be made by Mayor Ken Ladner.

Come hear "O, Fair New Mexico"'New Mexico's state song and traditional 1870s music. The museum will have its copy of the charter on view. Come dressed in your best 1870s wear!

There will also be a Mini-Retablo Workshop with artist Pamela Enriquez-Courts from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Silver City Museum. The workshop is free with a suggested $5 donation. Registration is required, with a max class capacity of 20. Call (575) 538-5921 or email education@silvercitymuseum.org to register.

The Town of Silver City is the only remaining municipality in the State of New Mexico still operating under authority of a Territorial Charter. The Town honors its special place in the development of New Mexico as being a model for local self-rule and for the foresight of its successive governing bodies by establishing laws and regulations for health, general well-being, and safety of its inhabitants.

Enjoy a Biscochitos Bake Sale from 9am to 5pm and a Best Biscochitos Baking contest at Javalina Coffee House on 117 West Market St. To sign up for the contest, contact Silver City MainStreet at (575) 534-1700 or downtownsilvercity@gmail.com.

Join a Hiking Tour of Boston Hill and historic mining sites conducted by Sylveen Cook. Meet at the Cooper Street Trail Head at 1pm. This hike is moderately strenuous so please wear proper shoes. Sign up for the hike by calling (575) 538-9001.
