Richard Felger will talk about “March to the North: the Last Tropical Orchid”. Orchids, oaks, agaves, yuccas, daturas, cacti and many other plant groups are hugely diverse towards the tropics but have only a few representatives that have migrated north. How do the poleward outliers achieve their northern march? How do they differ east and west of the North American continental divide? And how do they compare with their counterparts in the Old World and in the Southern Hemisphere? The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments following the program.
