“Grant County Extension,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
Sunday, April 24, 2022, 10:00am |
Jessica Swapp, Grant County Extension Agent, will talk about the origins of the Cooperative Extension Service and what it does for people today.
The Cooperative Extension Service system got its start in 1862 when Congress passed the Morrill Act, which provided for a university in each state to provide education to citizens in agricultural and mechanical fields. These colleges are known as "land-grant universities." New Mexico State University was founded in 1888 as Las Cruces College. The New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts was established as a land-grant college in 1889.
Today, the purpose of Cooperative Extension Service, in the amended version states: (1985) “…the development of practical demonstrations of research knowledge and giving of instruction on existing or improved practices or technologies in agriculture.”
We may have the back door open and ceiling fans going, so please bring a jacket to stay warm if needed.
UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:
We will not be serving food or drinks in the building until further notice. Masks will still need to be worn at all times indoors and out except when eating or drinking. We will continue to serve refreshments on the patio, weather permitting. Visitors are always welcome.
