Winter and Valenzuela to speak at Rotary

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Doug Winter, a member of the Silver City Rotary Club, currently living in El Paso, TX, and Enrique Valenzuela, will speak to the Rotary club about the work that is being done with the Migrant Situation on the Juarez/El Paso border. seekers in Juarez, Mexico. Valenzuela is the coordinator general of the State Population Council of the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. The council is in charge of the welfare and safety of all immigrants in the State of Chihuahua.
Winter’s interest began after seeing the conditions of the people living on the streets, and meeting Father Hector Cano, who was running two shelters.
This was in 2019. Moving ahead, Winter established Dormir es Poder, (Sleep is Power), and in March of 2020 he received his tax exempt status. Winter has spoken to Rotary before and will be giving the club his updates.
The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. for lunch in the WNMU Student Memorial Building, Second Floor , Sunset Room. There is a brief “meet and greet”, a short business meeting and then the speaker has the floor. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. Guests are asked to contribute $10.00 if they want a hot lunch with salad, dessert and coffee.
