WeavingSW Women's Fiber Arts Collective (SWFAC) is pleased to participate in the Silver City Art Association's Weekend at the Galleries with the Fall Fiber Arts Sale. This free annual sale will be held Saturday October 11, from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday October 12, from 10 am to 2 pm in the ballroom of the Murray Hotel in Downtown Silver City.

Members of SWFAC make many types of fiber art encompassing the manual manipulation of a variety of fibers by weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing, felting, quilting, basket making, and paper making to name a few of the techniques.

In addition to the work of SWFAC members, the Fall Fiber Arts Sale will include Weaving for Justice. Weaving for Justice is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization working in solidarity with Maya weaving collectives in Chiapas, Mexico. Their goal is to assist the members of the collectives to continue living on their ancestral lands in sustainable ways that respect their lands, language (Tsotsil), and traditions.

In addition to selling textiles for the weaving collectives, they work with the weavers to educate the public about their lives, struggles, and contributions to a sustainable and just society.

They are guided by principles of Fair Trade – paying a fair wage in the local context, working directly with the weavers, and by-passing middlepersons – to offer the weavers a fair price for their work.

Weaving for Justice also raises funds for scholarships for Maya youth in Belize, Chiapas, and Guatemala by selling textiles and other items from Latin America that have been donated to us. To learn more about them please visit www.weaving-for-justice.org

The Fall Fiber Arts Sale is a wonderful opportunity to shop for unique gifts and support fiber artists at the same time.

Sandra Calderon will be selling delightful baked goods and savory items in the lobby of the Murray Hotel with plenty of room to sit and relax.
