The Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corps League in Silver City invites everyone here and in our surrounding communities to join us for its Marine Corps 250th Birthday Celebration. We welcome all military services, veterans, first responders, and civilians to this historic occasion. It will be a special evening of celebration and tradition, honoring the establishment of the United States Marine Corps in 1775 and all military men and women serving yesterday, today and tomorrow.

"If you haven't been to an annual USMC Birthday Celebration, it is an exceptional event steeped in tradition and honor," said Charlie LeBlanc, newly elected Commandant of the Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corps League. "Our 250th promises to be a very special occasion. There will be a social hour, dinner and ceremonies, traditional cake cutting, and dancing afterward. We are very honored to have Tony Poletti, Colonel, USMC (Retired), Commandant of the Department of Texas Marine Corps League, as our Guest Speaker."

Each year the Silver City Marine Corps League conducts funeral honors for deceased veterans from all military services in communities across southwest New Mexico, provides honor guards for flag-raising ceremonies and college and high school sporting events, assists local Marines in a variety of ways, and conducts its annual Toys for Tots drive to ensure children in need in our communities receive a toy for Christmas.

You don't have to be a Marine to join the League and be part of our community service. Regular Members are Active, Reserve, Retired and Veteran U.S. Marines, and Navy Corpsmen and Chaplains who have worn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. Associate members include veterans from all other U.S. military branches, Merchant Marines, and civilians who want to serve our community and honor our veterans.

To RSVP for the 250th Birthday Celebration or for more information on this event or membership in our League, contact Ron Oglesby (575) 590-1492 or Dean Bearup (575) 313-2612.
