SANTA FE — Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, under the auspices of a public health order, declared that law-abiding citizens in Bernalillo County are no longer able to carry firearms, open or concealed, in public spaces for 30 days.

Governor announces statewide enforcement plan for gun violence, fentanyl reduction
Plan includes 30-day suspension of concealed, open carry in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County
SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced on Friday a new public health order that outlines immediate actions aimed at quickly reducing gun violence and illegal drug use in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
The recent shooting deaths of a thirteen-year-old girl on July 28, a five-year-old girl on August 14, and an eleven-year-old boy on September 6, as well as two mass shootings this year spurred the governor to declare gun violence a public health emergency on Thursday. Today’s public health order includes directives to curb the gun violence and drug abuse that the Governor has declared to be public health emergencies.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation and contractor will be continuing with repairs to the I-10 to I-25 ramp in Las Cruces. Beginning Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, Hasse Contracting Company, Inc. (Contractor) will be making the needed concrete repairs to the bridge deck, barrier walls and support piers. This work is estimated at $1.3 million and is expected to take approximately three months to complete. Lane closures will be required on I-10 eastbound lanes for the safety of the traveling public and our construction crews.

(ALBUQUERQUE)— Military veterans and national guard/reserve/active-duty service members will be admitted free to the New Mexico State Fair on 2023 Military and Veterans Day at the State Fair Tuesday, September 12.
This annual day at the state fairgrounds in Albuquerque is presented by the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS), the New Mexico National Guard, and the New Mexico State Fair to honor and thank the men and women who have served our country as members of the United States Military.
Gates open at 10a.m., and the fairground closes at 9p.m.
Service members, veterans, national guard/reserve personnel, and retirees must present either a valid Uniformed Services Retiree Identification Card, a valid New Mexico veterans-designation driver’s license, VA Veterans Health ID Card, or a copy of their DD-214 Separation Papers at the gate in order to obtain the free admission.

N.M. Delegation Announces Over $2 Million for WESST to Invest in Entrepreneurs, Support Small Businesses, and Drive Economic Development in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) welcomed $2,250,000 in federal funding from the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to support Women’s Economic Self-Sufficiency Team, Corp. (WESST) in their work to expand opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs and drive economic development in New Mexico.
