Game Commission to meet May 16

HOBBS – The New Mexico State Game Commission will hold a meeting at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Lea County Event Center, 5101 N. Lovington Hwy., Hobbs, New Mexico 88240. The full agenda, location details, attendee information and general information will be available on the Department of Game and Fish website.
If you are interested in participating or providing comments, but cannot attend the meeting in person, you are encouraged to pre-register to attend the meeting on the Zoom Webinar platform. For those who wish only to view the meeting, there will also be a live webcast on the Department’s website.

Extremely dry conditions and multiple fire starts prompt action to prevent more fires
SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico State Parks Division is announcing the implementation of Stage II fire restrictions for Pecos Canyon State Park in San Miguel County beginning Friday May 3, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
“Due to dry conditions and two recent fire starts within outdoor recreation areas within Pecos Canyon, we feel it is prudent to restrict open campfires at this time,” State Parks Division Director Toby Velasquez. “Fire restrictions are a proactive way to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire, protect natural and cultural resources, and enhance public and firefighter safety.”

Tickets discounted to $5 for five hours on Cinco de Mayo
The New Mexico State Fair is kicking off Cinco de Mayo in style: with a five-hour flash sale for families to buy discounted fair admission tickets for $5.
The tickets will be on sale from noon to 5 p.m. during Cinco de Mayo celebrations across the state. The sale will be announced on the New Mexico State Fair social media channels. In-Person Car Seat Inspection to be held in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division (NMDOT TSD) and Safer New Mexico Now will host an in-person Car Seat Fitting Station from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Sisbarro Buick-GMC, 425 West Boutz Road in Las Cruces. This free educational event provides parents and caregivers instruction on the proper selection, installation, and use of their car seats from nationally certified child passenger safety technicians.
