GRANT COUNTY – Deputy District Attorney Norman Wheeler today announced he will be running as a Republican for District Attorney of the Sixth Judicial District serving Grant, Luna and Hidalgo Counties.
Over the last several years, drugs have permeated the community fueling high crime rates and devastating families. Despite New Mexico’s intense uptick in crime, Wheeler has leveraged his extensive legal experience prosecuting violent crime as well as his relationships with law enforcement to successfully manage hundreds of cases at a time.
“The District Attorney’s Office should not be politicized as it has been. I intend to refocus the office around an aggressive, intelligent analysis of facts applied to the law, not around who knows who,” said Wheeler.
Before prosecuting felony-level cases in judicial districts across the state, Wheeler focused on family law and juvenile court matters. In addition to his legal work, he sat on the Adult Drug Court panel in the sixth and eighth judicial districts. In 2018 Wheeler was named “Southwest New Mexico Prosecutor of the Year” by the New Mexico State Bar Association.

Veteran, businessman, and former State Senator Gabriel Ramos today announced his campaign to run for New Mexico State Senate District 28.
Ramos first engaged in public service when he was elected to Grant County Clerk at age 25. He was later elected to serve on the Cobre School Board, Hurley Town Council and then the Grant County Commission for eight years before being appointed to the New Mexico Senate in 2019.
A Hispanic Catholic, Ramos was pushed out of his seat by radical Santa Fe politicians after he not only refused to back down from his values of life, freedom, and opportunity, but also rejected their agenda of power and control.
