MOGOLLON – The New Mexico Department of Transportation will close NM 159 (Bursum Road) for the winter season beginning today January 12, 2026.
The lower gate will be closed at milepost 12.3, just past Mogollon, and the upper gate will be closed at milepost 22.6 near Willow Creek Campground. Seasonal closure is necessary due to winter weather conditions that make the roadway impassable.
Motorists traveling to Willow Creek, Snow Lake and the Gila National Forest should use U.S. 180 to NM 12 (Reserve) to NM 435 (Reserve–Beaverhead Road) as an alternate route.
NMDOT will continue to monitor conditions throughout the winter. The roadway is expected to reopen between late April and mid-May, weather permitting.
NMDOT remains committed to the safety of the traveling public and appreciates motorists' cooperation. For the latest road conditions, visit www.nmroads.com or call 511.
