October 26, at 10 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Aging is Not a Disease"
Kathleen Flynn will talk about how aging can mean making adjustments in our lives. Our medical system and the culture in our country can be a challenge to navigate from an elder's perspective. "
As gray hairs, or no hair and the inevitable wrinkling of time display, our last trimester is upon us; let's explore our experience living in the "wisdom lane," Flynn said.
Kathleen L. Flynn is an author, teacher, and spiritual caregiver with more than fifty years of
combined public, civic, and ministry service. From 1965 to 2001 she worked in Alaska's Kenai
Peninsula, the Cities of Kenai and Homer, and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough—holding
municipal leadership and consulting roles including City Clerk, then Asst City Manager of Homer and principal of K. Scott & Associates in Kenai. Her firm contributed to community and
educational initiatives such as the Challenger Learning Center project, City of Kenai Public
Health Center, Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council, Healthy Communities-Healthy
People and volunteer advocacy for United Way and The Women's Center for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Flynn left Alaska to pursue education in religious studies that led to ordination, first as an
Interfaith Minister and ultimately as a Unity Minister. She developed her ministerial gifts
through chaplaincy, pastoral care and grief recovery while living and teaching Unity principles.
She draws on her foundation of public service and the 25 years of chaplaincy and ministry that
formed her passion for sacred service in support of others in their spiritual growth.
She settled here in Silver City last year and continues her empowerment work. She is the
author of Essential Grief: Getting Real about the Consequences of Buried Grief (2022) and
leads workshops on grief recovery, spiritual renewal, and creative reflection. Her
mission—empowering spiritual growth through teaching, writing, and SoulTending—capture the heart of her lifelong vocation.
There are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjoy the service outside.
Childcare is available every Sunday. Zoey Cronin will lead a formal children's program on second and fourth Sundays. This Sunday is a Children's RE Sunday.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:
Masks are now optional, but their use is encouraged. We will continue to serve refreshments on the patio and in the building. Visitors are always welcome.
