Sharal Lefkowitz-Oberg, Silver City MainStreet Executive Director, will talk about what Silver City Mainstreet is and what it does for Silver City.

"Our group's mission is to encourage a vibrant, historic downtown Silver City that is recognized as the heart of our diverse community," Lefkowitz-Oberg said.

The Silver City MainStreet Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1985. In addition to its core MainStreet work, the organization operates the Silco Theater and manages the Murray Ryan Visitor Center. Management of the Murray Ryan Visitor Center is provided by the Silver City MainStreet Project on behalf of the Town of Silver City.

The Silver City MainStreet Project is accredited by Main Street America and New Mexico MainStreet. The organization is one of five original affiliate MainStreet programs in the state of New Mexico, founded in 1985, and it is the only continuously operating program.

"Being the oldest continuously running local program in the state is not only a testament to the strength of our organization and its volunteers, Board members, and staff, but to the nature of our community. Our community is full of creative, passionate, dedicated, and supportive people. Because of this, I'm not surprised that our community was at the forefront of the MainStreet initiative and holds the distinction of the only local program in the state to remain in operation for the entirety of the last 40 years," Lefkowitz-Oberg said.

Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
