Silver City, NM, May 1st, 2025---A local, retired civil rights attorney will speak at the monthly PFLAG Silver City support meeting on Tuesday, May 6th, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. Light refreshments will be served.
George Carr will speak about current immigration issues and answer questions. In addition, there will be time for sharing and support.

Alesia Hallmark of Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) will speak to Rotary Tuesday May 6 at noon at the Hearth. Her topic will be the Pick It Up-Toss No Mas program.
Ms. Hallmark has B.S. degrees in Botany and Zoology from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in Aridland Ecology from the University of New Mexico. As a researcher with the Sevilleta Long-Term Ecological Research program, Alesia studied the relationship between long-term patterns of climate, plant growth, and animal population dynamics across the Southwestern U.S. As the coordinator of the Silver City Watershed Keepers and Pick It Up-Toss No Mas programs, Alesia hopes to protect natural spaces and waterways of the greater Gila bioregion and encourage people to connect with their local ecosystems.

Top of Western Drive he can see a fire/brown house/there is smoke but no active flames. GCSO deputy had contact with (redacted). SCFD – E11 – small smoldering fire/it was put out. Deputy advised made contact with a male who stated he was burning cardboard and didn't know of the burn prohibition that was in place/this is not the first call to the area.
