(Albuquerque, NM) – More than 400 New Mexico families struggling to make ends meet will receive help paying their PNM bill, thanks to support from Intel. The company has made substantial energy efficiency investments in its Rio Rancho facility and will re-allocate a portion of its PNM energy efficiency rebate check to help income-qualified families by paying part or all of their past-due electric bills.
"We want to thank Intel for its leadership and generosity to help our most vulnerable customers," said Ebony Vizcaino, PNM's manager of outreach and engagement. "Intel's contribution will help so many families with their electric bill, and we hope this will inspire other local companies to partner with PNM to allocate PNM rebates toward the PNM Good Neighbor Fund as well."
"We are proud to help families who may be struggling here in New Mexico," said Frank Gallegos, Director of Intel New Mexico public affairs. "We are committed to understanding the needs of our local communities and finding innovative ways to give back to those most vulnerable. Redirecting our rebate savings toward an important cause is the right thing to do. We thank PNM for helping us save energy and money and for providing the PNM Good Neighbor Fund to help those who need help with their electric bill."
As part of PNM's Retrofit Rebate Program, Intel installed qualifying energy efficient equipment, that saved more than 6 million kilowatt-hours of energy, enough to power almost 600 homes for a year or drive an electric vehicle around the world more than 900 times.
PNM is encouraging other companies who take advantage of the retrofit program, and receive a rebate, to consider re-allocating a portion of that rebate to the PNM Good Neighbor Fund if possible.
The PNM Good Neighbor Fund is one of PNM's long-standing programs to help low-income families in emergency circumstances. It is primarily funded by PNM's shareholders, employees and customers.
