"Military and Veterans Appreciation Week brings awareness on campus while providing vital support and recognition for military and veteran students and their families," said Erika Zaragoza, Military and Veterans Programs coordinator. "This week's events build appreciation, connect the community with resources and honor the service and sacrifices of our military-affiliated students."
The Las Cruces Veterans Day Parade will begin the week at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in Downtown Las Cruces. The theme of the 2025 parade is Honoring America's Future Military Leaders. NMSU's Army and Air Force ROTC will be marching in the parade.
On Monday, Nov. 10, Military and Veterans Appreciation Week kicks off at NMSU with its opening ceremony at Aggie Memorial Tower at 10 a.m. Alongside the ceremony, the Student Veterans Organization will have an information table from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside of Corbett Center Student Union's west entrance.
"We hope this week raises awareness and understanding of the unique challenges our veterans and military students face throughout their academic journey," said Gail Bamford, Military and Veterans Programs coordinator. "We also aim to highlight the resources available to support them and to encourage all of us to learn from and celebrate the strength, dedication and resilience of these remarkable individuals."
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, MVP will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Corbett Center, Room 244. Attendees can learn about MVP and its staff. Refreshments, pizza and popcorn will be available.
"The events not only help veterans feel a part of the NMSU community but also raise awareness of the veterans' needs," said Paul Aragon, Military and Veterans Programs coordinator. "These week-long events will help both veterans and civilians learn about each other's needs and assist with the transition into civilian life."
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, NMSU will honor the National Guard and pay a special tribute to the New Mexico National Guard. At the northeast side of Corbett Center, Student Veterans Organization will host a Veterans Day Celebration to celebrate veterans with refreshments, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and games. There will be information tables from the NMSU ROTC program and the New Mexico National Guard.
On Thursday, Nov. 13, the Veterans Day Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Garcia Center courtyard. Food will be provided by Jim Bobs BBQ, free of charge. Local veteran service organizations, including the Las Cruces Vet Center, will host information tables.
The week concludes Friday, Nov. 14, with the NMSU Faculty and Staff Veterans Banquet at 6 p.m.
