The 2024 Wildfire Preparedness is Year-Round campaign provides monthly wildfire preparedness tasks that follow the changing seasons. The February message from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department’s Forestry Division, along with our partners, agencies and non-governmental organizations is, “Get to Know Ready, Set, Go!.”
Traffic Alert NM 26 Bridge Rehabilitation

HATCH - The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office in cooperation with La Calerita LLC (Contractor) has begun a bridge rehabilitation project on NM 26 at milepost 47.7 over Interstate 25.
During this time, the bridge over the Interstate 25 will have intermittent closures at exit 41(Hatch). Eastbound NM 26 traffic to Northbound I-25 will need to follow the detours signage to Rincon. Travel lanes along I-25 may be reduced to a single lane depending on the work location, drivers should be vigilant for construction signing.

Open enrollment for 2024 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program begins February 15th
Program served over 10,000 eligible seniors and elders last year
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) will begin accepting applications for the 2024 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) starting Thursday, Feb. 15.
The program, overseen by the state’s Women, Infants and Children program (WIC), provides income-eligible seniors and elders a shopper card with a one-time annual benefit of up to $100 to buy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey at participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands statewide. EDD Ready to Assist New Business In Development of a Roswell Manufacturing Center

ROSWELL, N.M. – The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) has provisionally awarded economic assistance to an Austin-based company to open a modular home manufacturing center in a long-closed building at the Roswell Air Center.
Turnkey Ventures Inc. is planning to invest $11.8 million into the New Mexico expansion and hire 330 workers in Roswell, establishing the community as a manufacturing center for its modular home products.

NMSU ranks among 2024 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Programs

New Mexico State University’s online campus, NMSU Global, has been recognized this year in the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings.
NMSU Global earned multiple spots on the 2024 list of online programs, including an overall ranking of 150 out of 358 universities.
The online programs that earned rankings include NMSU’s master’s in criminal justice (tied for 43), MBA (tied for 124), bachelor’s programs overall (tied for 150), bachelor’s programs for veterans (tied for 81), bachelor’s degrees in business (tied 44), master’s degrees in education (tied 227), master’s degrees in computer information technology (ranging from 72 to 93), and master’s degrees in engineering (ranging from 86 to 11).

Health officials stress the importance of recognizing symptoms and adopting prevention measures
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) is alerting the public to an increase in carbon monoxide poisoning cases as temperatures decline, and snowfall in northern and central mountains is occurring. Hospital emergency departments have observed a rise in carbon monoxide-related visits since fall 2023, demanding urgent attention and heightened awareness.
