At age 93, Betty L. Yount Pack entered her eternal rest on January 8, 2026, after more than ten years of living with dementia. She passed peacefully at Haciendas at Grace Village Assisted Living in Las Cruces. Betty was the daughter of John D. and Josephine Yount. Following the divorce and remarriage of her parents, her family expanded to include two sisters, Freda and Susan, through her father John and his wife Rena Yount, and a third sister, Jaucqlin, through her mother Josephine and her husband Wesley Walker.
Betty was a long-time resident of Hurley, New Mexico. She was born December 2, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa, and was raised in a Midwestern farming family that later moved to California, where she attended Anaheim High School in Anaheim. She met her husband, Gerald "Jerry" L. Pack, who served in the United States Marine Corps. After they married they moved to Hurley New Mexico, where they raised their family. They were married for 63 years until Jerry's passing on November 2, 2012. Together they had three sons: Ronald L. Pack (who entered eternal rest in 2020), Steven L. Pack, and George Pack.
Betty enjoyed making crochet blankets, knitting, and cross-stitch artwork. She was active in the Home Extension Service and was a member of Rebekahs, the women's branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards with longtime friend Betty Cook ("Fred") and her family in Hurley. The two Betty's were always doing something together. Betty also spent many weekends and years with Jerry and his cousin Dave Woodward and wife Joan, helping tend cattle on the Bald Mountain Ranch near Tyrone, New Mexico. In later years, Betty and Jerry took several cruises together, which they enjoyed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Freda and Jaucqlin; her husband, Jerry Pack; and her son Ron Pack. She is survived by daughter-in-law Julie Pack and grandson Ronald L. Pack; by Steven L. Pack and family; and by George Pack, daughter-in-law Sabrina Lee Humphrey Pack, and grandchildren Robert G. Pack and Serina L. Pack. Betty also remained connected to the Woodward family at the Bald Mountain Ranch near Tyrone. The family extends sincere gratitude to the Woodwards for their kindness, support, and assistance during Betty's later years, as well as the close neighbors across the street in Hurley, Joe and Bertha Marin for watching out for one another.
Betty will be interred at Fort Bayard National Cemetery alongside her husband, Jerry. In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held, and the burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers a Donation to a Dementia foundation would be appreciated.
