LoydPaulPaul (Chapo) Loyd entered into eternal rest on May 11th, 2025 at Millie's Assisted Living. 

Paul was born July 22nd,1934 to Oren and Isla Loyd, in Cliff, NM. Growing up, he attended Hurley Elementary, Pea Ridge, Arkansas schools. Then later on he graduated from Western High School in Silver City NM. 

Paul joined the military in February of 1953 and served in the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in February of 1955 as a Corporal. After the military Paul joined a trade school in Chicago and got his degree in Refrigerator, Heating and A/C repair, Paul also joined tournaments of thrills where he performed dangerous acrobatics acts off a moving car. He then went on and became a bull rider and rodeo clown where he would perform the main act at the rodeos for several years, that's where he met his lifetime partner Joann.

Paul would later on open up Desert Refrigeration, where he would work on all HVAC systems in Las Cruces, NM for a few years then moved it to Silver City, NM for several more years. While still owning his own business Paul also worked for Western New Mexico University in their maintenance department, and that is where Paul retired. 

In his retirement he enjoyed taking his family fishing and camping In Arizona and New Mexico, but he really enjoyed taking weekend trips to the casino, where when he would win, he would say "there it is"! He also loved his hobby of raising, racing greyhounds and selling them all over the United States. Pa was very proud of one of his top dogs Madam Millie where she held the top racing record at the Tucson Greyhound Park in Arizona until its closing on June of 2022. 

He was very proud to be called a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and also a great great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of one the Rowdy Bunch. 

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Isla, one sister Donna Vanpelt, one son Michael Loyd, and his life time partner Joann. Paul was survived by five sons, Paul J. Loyd (Edie) of AZ; Shorty Hickson (Jeannette) of Silver City; John Hickson (Diane) of Puyallup, WA; Robert Hickson (Debbie) of TX; and Phillip Hickson of Silver City; two daughters, Ginney Coulter (Keith) of Albuquerque; Ann Clark (Gaylan) of Buckhorn; thirteen grandchildren, Rocky Hickson (Angela); Rishean Allison (Paul); Heather Gomez, Alicia Hickson, Robert Hickson, Michael Cox (Shannon); Amber Hickson (Stephanie), Amber Lariviere, Kris Clark (Madi), Emma Carter (Rieley); Chris Coulter, Candice Coulter, and Jamie Loyd; thirty-two great grandchildren, nineteen great great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service with full military honors will be celebrated on Friday, May 23rd at 11am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Robert Hickson officiating.
