Top Energy Critics to Compete in Energy Hypocrite Madness

Washington, D.C. - To mark the annual rite of March Madness, Power The Future today launched the “Energy Hypocrite Madness” tournament highlighting the top anti-energy hypocrites in the United States. Contestants were chosen based on who spewed extreme anti-energy rhetoric while still relying on the very fossil fuel industry they seek to destroy.

“If you’re looking for real madness, look no future than these individuals or groups because their hypocrisy is truly insane,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “It’s time we had some fun at their expense, but there’s nothing funny about what these hypocrites are doing to our country. While they demand each of us give up our car, gas stove and other parts of our way of life, they refuse to do the same. If nothing else, these hypocrites highlight the critical importance of traditional energy in our lives.”

Every day, a new matchup will be posted on the Power The Future Twitter account where the public will get to vote on who moves on in the bracket. Now, on to the Sweet Sixteen competitors, in no particular order:

  • President Joe Biden - Perhaps no president has done so much, so quickly to erode American energy independence than the current occupant of the White House. He’s begged Saudi Arabia for more oil, cut a dirty deal with a dictator in Venezuela and leased the fewest acres of U.S. land for oil production since Harry Truman. He drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to new lows while delivering the highest gas prices in history. The whole time, Biden never accepted responsibility for his failures and instead decided to blame Covid, Russia, oil companies and everyone else under the sun for his own failures. Now, American families are struggling through Biden’s colossal energy disaster — all entirely manmade.

  • Bill Gates - Bill Gates almost has enough hypocrisy to land on the list twice. Gates is widely known for his elitist private jet travel while lecturing the rest of us on the climate. However, when confronted with his hypocrisy, Gates inexplicably responded that it’s acceptable for him to fly in private jets because of all the money he spends on offsets and to fight climate change.

  • California Governor Gavin Newsom - Newsom is a well-known climate cultist, yet even he can’t live up to the hype. Nearly immediately after he demanded Californians buy only electric vehicles, he begged EV owners not to charge them in order to keep the grid stable. Governor Newsom didn’t mention the fragile grid is a result of his push down the unreliable “green road.”

  • Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - New York Congresswoman AOC is the darling of the environmental left, so much so they look past her hypocrisy. AOC famously declared the world only has 12 years to act on climate. Less than two months after those comments it was revealed she used ride-sharing services over 1,000 times despite the fact she’s close to the NYC subway. Of course, AOC’s urgency for the planet seems to also take a back seat to her Florida vacations.

  • Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Tracey Stone Manning - As the Director of BLM, Tracey Stone Manning oversees millions of acres of federal land, despite her troubling history with eco-terrorism.

  • Prince Harry - In November, Prince Harry was the centerpiece of a climate award gala in Boston. The event had much pomp and circumstance, and they planned to give out awards for climate innovation and renewable energy. The problem? The policies he’s promoting have resulted in rampant child labor in Africa and empowered China. The renewable energy sources the prince is pushing rely on critical minerals like cobalt that largely comes from mines in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Wilson Center concluded that 40,000 children work in these mines and are effectively slaves. To make matters much worse, the supply chains of these critical minerals are dominated by China and enrich Beijing.

  • Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm - When she’s not laughingabout domestic energy production, Secretary Granholm is openly admitting her hypocrisy. Secretary Granholm said that when it comes to transporting fuel, pipelines are the best option. Of course Secretary Granholm cheerfully supports the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline because that’s what hypocrites do. All of this while she’s driven around in another gas-powered SUV.

  • Climate Art Destroyers - It’s hard to miss our next group because they have been making a mess all over museums across the globe. These groups of extreme activists try to destroy famous pieces of art by throwing food and paint on them. They most famously threw cake at the Mona Lisa, but their art attacks go well beyond that one incident.

Rewiring America - This group is responsible for the banning of gas stoves fiasco at the beginning of the year. While their founders and donors rake in millions, they lecture hard-working Americans on what appliances they can or cannot use.

  • Interior Secretary Deb Haaland - Secretary Haaland has led the Department of Interior through several hypocritical decisions, from flip-flopping on critical projects to meeting with a violent green groupentangled with a family member.

  • Climate “Czar” John Kerry - This unelected and unconstitutional “climate czar” in the Biden White House did tremendous damage to America’s energy workers – and worst of all, he is accountable to no one. Kerry refused to give the public or Congress answers as to what authority he has and where funding for his staffs is coming from. The Boston Herald wrote, “John Kerry is being called out for his display of ‘cowardice’ for ducking questions.”

  • EPA Director Michael Regan - A potential sleeper, the EPA Administrator has managed to inflict tremendous regulatory damage, including a veto on Pebble Mine in Alaska and the overreach of the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rewrite. On top of that, Administrator Regan regularly meets and coordinates with dark money eco-left groups.

  • Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy - Another unelected and unconstitutional “climate czar” in the Biden White House. Gina McCarthy is apparently accountable… only to environmentalists. She held secretive meetings at the White House with several eco-groups to discuss the administration’s climate change efforts and war on American fossil fuels.

  • New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham - Once considered to be on President Biden’s short list for Vice President, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is also a green hypocrite. She told the US Climate Alliance that there’s no question for the need to “transition” from fossil fuels. In fact, she has signed orders requiring cars in her state get 52 miles to the gallon, while her own SUV gets much, much less

  • COP27 Attendees - In November 2022, the United Nations once again selected an exclusive resort to host their annual conference on hypocrisy. Attendees flew in over 400 private jets to lecture on climate while demanding climate reparations from our tax dollars. Likely not discussed at the conference were the blackouts that struck host country Egypt.

  • Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg - Secretary Buttigieg has championed for “green” initiatives for a long time. However, he seems to love fossil fuels as he jets around the world on private planes. This is while Mr. Buttigieg staged a bike-riding photo op with the assistance of some fossil fuel burning SUV’s.
