It is an undeniable truth of life in my world, we need to bring back lawn darts. If you do not know what those are look it up because it was one of the best games we played as children, but of course people got hurt by the game darts because they're just flat stupid. The benefit of their stupidity is that it helped us to clean the gene pool. The same can be said for putting warning tags on a lot of products. How many people do we really think we are saving by warning people not to use a toaster in the bathtub? Do the dumb ones really read the warning labels? But the result of trying to protect everyone is that the stupid ones are breeding and becoming a larger percentage of our population. I think most of them go into politics, while a few go into media.

I came across a person this past weekend at a social event that made me question how and why they existed and had survived to make it into their 40s. Part of the event included a free breakfast. I watched this person load a plate with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and toast. The amount of food would probably be more than I could eat. She then began nibbling on the food as she walked over to her partner's golf cart. Over the next 20 minutes, she conversed with the number of people and occasionally took a very small bite of the food. She then walked over and threw the entire plate in the trash. She then commented to her partner, "my willpower is getting so much better and I'm continuing to lose weight."

The urge to slap her upside the head was almost overwhelming. I also resisted the urge to ask her what the heck she was doing? The implication of her comment was that she never intended to eat the food that she took but was somehow building up her resistance to overeating by filling a plate and then refusing to eat it. The wastefulness was offensive. Her thought process was even more offensive. If you were trying to resist overeating, why not just take a table near the buffet and sit there for 20 minutes with a dry piece of toast on your plate?

I certainly understand overeating and the difficulty to resist but have never once in my life thought that filling a plate to the brim and then throwing it away was a good way to build up my willpower. In my experience it's more effective to take a little bit and resist going back to the buffet for a second or third trip. Certainly, people have different methods but wasting so much food should not be acceptable.

I'm done griping. I don't necessarily have a larger point this time although there is one there, I'm sure. It's just been bugging me, and I needed to get it off my chest.
