PNM begins important upgrade project near Silver City, NM

Over half a million customers depend on PNM for electricity, and we are committed to delivering safe, reliable power to homes and businesses throughout our service area. We are constantly investing in maintaining, upgrading, and modernizing our system to continue to meet customer needs today and in the future. One such project is set to begin Monday, Feb. 22, 2021 on a distribution line near Silver City, NM. 

PNM will begin work to remove and replace 34 poles and wire on an overhead electric distribution line on a two-mile stretch along NM-152, west of the intersection with NM-35 in San Lorenzo, Grant County. This project will replace and relocate older wood poles with highly durable, long-lasting steel poles. This upgrade not only helps strengthen this stretch of the line, it will also provide better access to PNM crews for maintenance and repair work. 

“Maintaining and upgrading the electric system is an ongoing process,” said Derek Kastendieck, project manager with the PNM New Mexico Operations department. “This project helps to fortify our system and maintain and improve service to customers served by this distribution line.”

PNM has contracted with Hardy Hole Drilling, LLC to construct this project, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2021. During this time, residents may experience traffic interruptions as well as an increase of activity with PNM and contractor trucks in the area. Most work will take place during daylight hours; however, drivers may experience some daily lane closures while work crews are active. Lanes will reopen when work has ceased for the day. 

We do not anticipate any interruption of electric service to customers in the area because of this project. However, power outages do occur for a variety of reasons. If customers do happen to experience an outage, they can report it online at PNM.com/outage, text #OUT to 78766, or call 888-DIAL-PNM.
