agpeoThanks to the generous support of the Grant County community through their purchase of New  Mexican grown pecans, two recent graduates of county high schools will each receive a $1500 scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year from the Chapter AG, P.E.O. Foundation  Scholarship account. This annual fall pecan fundraiser has been a successful chapter project  for over 55 years, enabling scores of young women to realize their educational goals.

This year’s local scholarship recipients are Makayla Martinez and Hannah Miller.

Among the top students in her Silver High School graduating class, Makayla Martinez has also  graduated with honors this May with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Western New  Mexico University. An athletic winner in soccer and track and field, Makayla has additionally  provided leadership in multiple extracurricular activities, i.e., FCCLA, Science Olympiad, and  National History Day. She will attend the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in Biology  and an eventual doctorate in medicine (dermatology).

Hannah Miller, 2023 Cliff High School valedictorian, has held leadership roles in National Honor  Society, Student Council, and FFA. This year she represented New Mexico FFA as a National  Chorus participant at the National FFA Convention and Expo. Serving her local church ably as  Worship Leader and Youth Pastor has been a valued commitment. Hannah will attend Western  New Mexico University to pursue a BSN-RN, Nursing Degree, followed by graduate work in  nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
