volunteersOn Saturday, August 5th, Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) hosted its First Annual HMS Celebrates Hidalgo County event. Over 300 local residents attended the event, celebrating the local healthcare system, the National Community Health Center Week (August 6-12, 2023), and the residents of Hidalgo County. “We are grateful for the show of support from the Hidalgo County Community, and we are especially thankful for our event sponsors, which included Western Bank, Western New Mexico University, Hidalgo Herald, Recovery Management Center, Morning Star Sports, and our food sponsor, Iron Door BBQ & Grill,” said, Dr. Dan Otero, HMS CEO. Elks Lodge, McDonalds, Recovery Management Center, and HMS provided water and raffle donations to support the event. The City of Lordsburg Police and Fire Departments were in attendance, and the Fire Department provided additional water support to keep everyone cooled off throughout the day.

Participants were given the opportunity to visit the local healthcare system participants, including HMS’ Medical, Behavioral Health, Bridges 2 Care, Human Resources, and Family Support divisions. Also participating were the Center for Health Innovation, Recovery Management Center, Amplified Therapy, Genoa Pharmacy, the Office of Senator Ben Lujan, Hidalgo County Health Council, Elks Lodge, Lordsburg Library, and Spirit of Hidalgo County. As participants completed their passports by visiting each healthcare table, they were eligible to be entered into the drawings for free giveaways. Six bikes donated by HMS were awarded to area children, four McDonald’s gift certificates, and two nice gifts poolfrom Recovery Management Center were also provided.

In addition to obtaining information about the local healthcare system, Iron Door BBQ & Grill, as the event food sponsor, served over 70 pounds of pulled pork barbeque and 120 hot dogs with all the fixings. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the music from DJ, Baltazar Dominguez of Lordsburg, the swimming pool was extremely busy as was the bounce houses and the bounce house water slide. Our Hidalgo County clinical care team were quick to use the HMS Mobile Health Unit to provide toys and all-day water sports to keep all the guests cool throughout the day.

Governor Howie Morales and Senator Siah Correa-Hemphill join this important event to show support of HMS, the local healthcare system, and Hidalgo County,” stated HMS Board Chairwoman, Ms. Carmen Acosta. “Hidalgo Medical Services was incorporated as a Private Non-Profit in 1995, and after 28 years of providing continued healthcare services to Hidalgo County and the region, we take great pride as employees to be part of such a great organization who has a primary core value of service to the community,” stated Pam Johnson, Finance Professional and Event firetruckCoordinator.
