Progressive Socialism and the selective application of the 1st Amendment

In October 2023, Physicians for Informed Consent [PIC] a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization, was pleased to observe the California legislature and Governor Newsom repeal the misinformation statute, effective January 1, 2024. This meant a doctor could not be censured or suspended for merely speaking out against the covid dogma promoted by the Surgeon General. A win for the 1st Amendment. Wait, not so fast.

At the same time last year, a medical doctor (not a PIC member) was accused by the Medical Board of California for "failure to wear a mask" during a patient visit, and making statements such as "masks don't stop viruses" and "encouraging the use of veterinary ivermectin" for COVID-19, without informing the patient that "she was advising actions/inactions that fell below the standard of care in the community." Last month the physician surrendered her medical license.

The PIC again filed suit. PIC General counsel, Greg Glaser, Esq., "This new lawsuit is necessary because the medical boards in California are still not respecting the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and doctors' speech is being chilled."

Letter to the Editor Re: WNMU use of funds

One of the biggest cases of corruption in southern New Mexico has recently been identified by the investigative news organization, Searchlight New Mexico. Over the last several years, Dr Joseph Shepard, the president of WNMU, has misused more than $100,000 of University money for the personal benefit of himself, his wife and several of the University Regents. Some of this money was used for lavish trips to Africa for his little group of co-conspirators. Other funds were spent on very high-end furnishings for his University house, and extravagant lodging and meals when he (frequently) traveled to Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

However, Dr Shepard is no dummy. He and his wife have friends in very high places, extending to the Governor’s office, who may be able to bury these misdeeds before he ever has to answer for them.

Letter to editor on the "cause" of massive immigration

While the Immigration issue lingers on and on without solutions, perhaps it's time to consider the "cause" of this massive immigration. Immigration is just the symptom and the cause has never been dealt with.

Unfortunately the cause probably won't ever be because our multinational corporations that do business in foreign countries do so because labor is cheaper there than creating and maintaining jobs for Americans at home, and the health, safety and environmental regulations are minimal at best .

United Fruit Company which later became Chiquita is well remembered for its exploitation, displacement and murder of indigenous peoples in Central American countries for cheap banana production. The CIA was involved, helping to overthrow democratically elected leaders so they could be replaced with leaders more compliant to the needs of big business.

In Joe's Case, It's Way More Than "the Economy, Stupid!"

In Joe's Case, It's Way More Than "the Economy, Stupid!"
By Mike Bibb

Hope the U.S. House Oversight Committee investigating Joe Biden -- and his circle of friends and relatives -- don't run out of subpoena forms.

Previously, House subpoenas were issued to Joe's son Hunter Biden, Joe's brother James Biden, and Biden business associate Rob Walker.

Now, we've learned at least four additional subpoenas have been served to Eric Schwerin and Mervyn Yan, art gallery owner George Berges and art collector Elizabeth Naftali.

Letter to Editor Re: opinion article in SCDP

Re: Pinos Altos thinning opinion letter

Dear editor, A recent opinion article published in the Silver City Daily Press on October 5, 2023 contained a factual error that I would like to correct. The letter was regarding recent thinning work and herbicide spraying on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public lands near Pinos Altos. The letter incorrectly associated the Gila National Forest's proposed Silver City West Hazardous Fuels Reduction project, for which a public meeting was held in August 2023, with the current action on BLM public lands.

The USDA Forest Service and the BLM are separate federal agencies, each responsible for managing its own lands. Gila National Forest does not take management actions (other than firefighting under interagency agreements) on BLM-managed lands. Decisions about how the BLM implements land management actions, such as fuels reduction and application of herbicide belong to the BLM.

Frontier Food Hub's award reflects their commitment to provide their community with freshly grown food.

Letter to editor on gun responsibility

Sep. 26, 2023

Dear Editor,

I applaud Governor Lujan-Grisham’s courage to issue an emergency firearms suspension, classified as a public health safety, across Albuquerque and the surrounding county for at least 30 days in response to the death of an 11-year-old boy in early September. Let’s take this time to pause and think what kind of a country we have become; one fixated on gun rights and ownership, a country with more guns than people.

Responsibility is the key concept for gun ownership, one in which we are failing pathetically as a nation. Guns are instruments of death, so having strict boundaries on training and types of guns allowed is reasonable. NM law does not require a waiting period to purchase a gun. Does this make sense? Guns are not the equalizing instruments as some claim because we live in an unequal society. Rather, guns make existing inequalities more volatile.

Letter to Editor on carbon sequestration

Dear Editor:

I had the opportunity to meet Governor Gordon, when I was manning the Converse County Republican booth on the Midway at the WY State Fair last month.  I am disappointed in the stance Governor Gordon and other Western Governors are taking to promote carbon emissions capture or 'carbon sequestration,' as they are now calling it.

We all learned the process of photosynthesis in seventh grade biology, but it seems that many have forgotten their early education.  I looked it up again to make sure.  Carbon dioxide is a natural and necessary component of our atmosphere.  Our plants and trees cannot exist without it.  All plants exhale Oxygen during daylight hours, then when the sun goes down, they exhale Carbon Dioxide.
