The Silver Chorale community choir will be performing their Winter Concert in December on the 5th and 7th. Friday, December 5th will be held at Terrazas Funeral Chapel in Santa Clara at 1 Ft. Bayard Road at 7:00 pm. The Sunday 7th concert will be performed at Cross Point Church at 11600 Hwy 180 E in Silver City at 3:00 pm.
This semester the mixed choir consists of 32 members and is directed by Bryce Wooton and accompanied by Laurel Brown. The concerts are free to the public, as it is a 501(3) (c) non profit organization, but donations are welcome to help support the buying of music, copies, sound equipment, chairs, lights and advertising.
Wooton says, "The program is a potpourri of music that celebrates the winter season mixed with new takes on familiar Christmas tunes. The audience will enjoy hearing old familiar tunes as well as a twist on some old favorites." The choir members have been challenged by the nuances of 21st century music and traditional holiday songs. Some of the songs are Pure Imagination from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; Intercession in Late October, Like Snow, and Magnum Mysterium all by Morton Lauridsen, Go Tell it on the Mountain, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and Celtic Silent Night to name only some.
The chorale board members very much appreciate the Cross Point Church and Pastor Tim Heyer for their provision of the choir's weekly rehearsals from mid August to December, as well as a wonderful venue for our Sunday performance. Pastor Tim makes the church available and supports what is needed for these events. Luis Terrazas and his son, Luis, and their staff have made it possible to bring the choir's music to the mining district. The invitation to perform at their beautiful chapel was the answer to a desire by the choir for many years. Having these two venues makes it easier for listeners to attend either an evening performance at Terrazas or if they prefer, a daytime event for those who do not like to drive at night.
For anyone who would like to audition for the choir, there is an opportunity at the first rehearsal at each semester. For more information please call Bryce Wooton at 575-654-1976.
