Silver City Masonic Lodge recently erected a piece of History in Grant County. A couple of Brethren spent many days restoring and getting the Historical Flag Pole operational again.
The 40’ steel Flag pole was originally at the Hurley Post Office. When it was removed, it later saw service at the Tyrone Masonic Lodge. After that Lodge was sold, it was stored for future use. This year the aforementioned Brothers decided to erect it at the Silver City Lodge.
So here it currently stands, proudly displaying Old Glory for all to see.

Silver City -- Owners of short-term rental properties in Silver City now have the option of paying their monthly lodgers' tax online, beginning with the October billing cycle. Earlier this year, town management contracted with Avenu Insights & Analytics for the collection of the five-percent lodgers' tax, which is levied on gross rental receipts from stays at local hotels, motels and short-term rental properties. Short-term rentals are defined as offering stays of less than 30 days. Avenu contractors identified 94 short-term rentals, several of which that had not yet been registered with the town.
"We're pleased to be able to offer this convenient payment and tax reporting process online," said Jacqui Olea, Silver City's community development director. "We ask that short-term rental owners carefully review the information packet sent out recently by Avenu Insights, and make sure that they've registered their business with the town."

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico artists Edna Harper and Stewart Williamson received the 2023 Rounders Award Oct. 25 for their vivid artistic creations that tell the story of the Western way of life.
New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Jeff Witte presented the awards to Harper and Williamson at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces.
The award was named after “The Rounders,” a classic Western novel that was written by Max Evans. Created in 1990 by former New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Frank DuBois, the purpose of the award is to honor those who live, promote and articulate the Western way of life. Max Evans was the first-ever award recipient. The Rounders tradition continues as this year’s recipients join 34 previous honorees.
Evans passed in 2020, however, the Rounders tradition lives on. Witte described these individuals as vivid creators of Western art that embody the tradition of the award.

When one of his residents called to say that there was a lot of trash around the little chapel on the hill (La Capilla), Town Councilor for District #1 Rudy Bencomo decided to take matters into his own hands, literally.
“I grew up 100 yards from that chapel. It’s disrespectful to have litter around that area so I took a black trash bag and filled it. People should use the trash receptacles that are there.”
At a local women’s group meeting he spoke about his road to becoming a town councilor and how much he enjoyed helping people.
