Ice Cream, Ice Cream, We All Crank the Ice Cream Machine
How did they make ice cream in the 1880’s? Find out on Sunday, August 18, at 1 pm to 2 pm, in the Silver City Museum kitchen and courtyard. After the ice cream is made, participants can enjoy some.
Ice cream was probably invented in the middle of the 17th century when one of Charles I of England's chef's developed a technique of shaking a flavored cream in a dish of ice. The king loved it so much he tried to keep it a "royal secret". The secret got out, though, and ice cream parlors soon spread throughout Europe. Ice cream's popularity exploded in the United States when President George Washington purchased a "cream machine for making ice" and spent $200 making ice cream all summer. Come and find out why George Washington was so excited.
Funding in part for these programs and exhibits is made possible thanks to the members and volunteers of the Silver City Museum Society.
