The Grant County Trails group, in collaboration with the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) Coalition, will sponsor a community hike to the top of Gomez Peak as part of the CDT Trail Days celebration. The hike, approximately three miles in length, will be held on Sunday, April 30th, from 10:00a.m. to 12Noon. This annual event is highly anticipated as it offers the opportunity to interact with experienced long-distance hikers who will accompany community members to offer advice, answer questions and share their experiences hiking on the Continental Divide Trail. The boot company Vasque is the title sponsor for this year's event and participating hikers will have the opportunity to demo state-of-the-art hiking equipment and hiking boots. Other gear companies will participate as well.

Public restrooms, picnic tables, shade, and water fountains are available at the Gomez Peak picnic area located adjacent to the trailhead. Directions: Travel North on Little Walnut Road approximately three miles to the Gomez Peak Trailhead parking lot (Left hand side of the road) where the group will meet. Please be prepared with sturdy hiking shoes, long pants, sunglasses, sunscreen and water and have your dogs on a leash during the hike.

CDT Trail Days (April 28th -30th, 2017) celebrates the kickoff of the 2017 hiking season, as well as Silver City as the first Gateway Community on the Continental Divide Trail, which runs from Canada to Mexico. More information and a full schedule of events can be found at www.continentaldividetrail.org. Silver City hosts an increasing number of CDT travelers coming through the town, thus benefiting the local economy and creating opportunities for local businesses.

For more information regarding this hike or other CDT Trail Days events please contact Jenny Gaeng, CDT AmeriCorps VISTA at (443) 803-0368, jgaeng@continentaldividetrail.org or Raul Turrieta, (505) 977-1056.
