For those who missed it the first time, the Gila Native Plant Society is offering its popular online course, “Landscaping with Native Plants,” again this coming February. This four-part course will utilize Western New Mexico University’s online teaching platform, Canvas. Participants will be able to access the four modules at any times convenient to them between February 1 and 28, 2021. 

The four modules will cover these aspects of landscaping with native plants:

*  Basic principles of landscape design;

* The variety of plants (trees, shrubs, vines, herbaceous perennials, cacti, etc.) that can be used to create a landscaped garden or space;

*  How to plant, prune and care for native plants; 

*  A virtual tour of local environments landscaped with native plants. 

At the end of each week, there will be a one-hour wrap-up via Zoom to allow for questions or comments.

Course cost will be $25, including a copy of the GNPS brochure, Beginner's Guide to Planting Native Perennials of the Gila Region, which describes 26 native flowering herbaceous perennials that are well adapted for natural gardening in the Silver City area.

A minimum of eight participants are needed to run the course, and a maximum of 25 can be accommodated. For information about how to register, or for any other questions, email gilanative@gmail.com.
