Silver City Watershed Keepers to continue healthy watershed conversation on Tuesday, February 22

The Silver City Watershed Keepers will continue its Get to Know Your Watershed Speaker Series from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm Tuesday, February 22, via Zoom.

The speaker series is designed to foster awareness of the natural and cultural history of the Silver City watershed, stimulate discussion of watershed and water resources protection, and provide a community forum for networking on watershed-related initiatives.

The February event, "Partners for a Healthy Watershed Part II,” will continue the conversation among community partners working in the Silver City watershed. Attendees will hear from local community groups about how they are making a difference in building a healthy watershed for everyone and how you can get involved.

The event will feature presentations from several community partners working on conservation, ecosystem health, recreation, education and community engagement projects in the watershed, including Bridgette Johns, project coordinator for Southwest New Mexico ACT, Alicia Edwards, Grant County Outdoor Recreation and Trails Master Plan, and Catalina Claussen, coordinator of the Youth Conservation Corps at Aldo Leopold Charter School.

Leigh Jenkins, coordinator of the Silver City Watershed Keepers, will moderate the webinar. The event is the second of several programs to be held this spring as part of the Get to Know Your Watershed Speaker Series.

Future presentations include professional licensed geologist Dylan Duverge on March 22. As part of World Water Day celebrations, Duverge will give a presentation on “Using Online Tools and Web Map Services to Understand Your Watershed.” On March 26, Duverge will lead a follow-up field trip on “The VIP’s of Stream Morphology”. In May, retired Silver City Museum director and historian Susan Berry will give a presentation on the history of Big Ditch Park. In June, a discussion of forest management in the upper Silver City Watershed will be featured.
