Bobby Carillo to speak at Rotary Meeting

BobbyCarilloBobby Carillo will be the Rotary speaker on October 24, 2023.  Carillo’s topic will be: “Weight Training and how it Improves & Longevity in People of all Ages.” Carillo is a personal trainer, whose gym, Fountain of Youth, is on Bullard St., in Silver City, NM.

Carillo welcomes questions about physical fitness, and is a “firm believer in a healthy body helping to have a healthy mind.”

The Rotary meeting will be held at the Silver Bowling Center, Ten Pin Lounge at 2020 Memory Lane, Silver City from 12-1 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. If you desire lunch, order from the menu in the cafeteria and it will be delivered to your table.

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest service organization, with more than 1.2 million members in more than168 countries. Since its founding in 1923, the Silver City Rotary Club has provided support and service to numerous non-profit organizations and civic causes in Silver City and Grant County as well as supporting and participating in humanitarian projects sponsored by Rotary International.

33rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade

The Silver City MainStreet Project is excited to share the participant application for the 33rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade beginning at 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in downtown Silver City!

The entry fee is $10. As with last year, there is no theme to the parade. We are excited to see what you create!

New this year, we extended the application deadline to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15.

Former NPR Journalist John Burnett Delivers Keynote Address

john burnettSouthwest Word Fiesta is proud to announce that retired journalist John Burnett will deliver the keynote address, “Forty Years of Looking for Hope in a Cynical World,” for its 10th anniversary book festival. The keynote address will be presented on Saturday, October 28, from 7-8 pm MDT. Venue: The Murray Hotel. Refreshments will be provided.

John Burnett, after working as a journalist for 43 years, retired from daily reporting in January 2023. For 36 years, he was a roving national correspondent for NPR based in Austin, TX. In his last year, he covered polarized America to explore all facets of our politically and culturally divided nation.

Seventh Annual Autumn Abundance Celebration - Mesquite Milling and Potluck

All are welcome to attend the Seventh Annual Autumn Abundance Celebration at The Commons (501 East 13th Street, Silver City, NM) on Sunday, November 12th from 10am-2pm. Throughout the day, those who have harvested mesquite pods will get their pods milled into flour using the community hammermill that has its permanent home at The Commons. Pods must be crispy dry (pods may be dried in a dehydrator, in your car, or in a low-heat oven). There is a suggested donation of $4/gallon of un-milled pods for the mesquite milling.

The Grant County Art Guild is holding an "Anything ART Sale” at the Murray Hotel ballroom on Nov 4, from 10am-3pm. Try a new art or craft on a budget, or pick up bargain art supplies for your kids or classroom. We will also have finished art for sale. Bev Bean will be in the hotel lobby with baked goods.
