Master of the Mountains Event at Sugarite Canyon State Park

Raton, NM - Sugarite Canyon State Park will be hosting the Master of the Mountains Saturday, September 12, 2015.

Come and cheer on the competitors in this great adventure relay! After a required Friday evening orientation in Raton, N.M. on Sept. 11 at 6:00 p.m., the event launches Saturday, Sept. 12th at 8:00 a.m. in Sugarite Canyon State Park with a 10K trail run and a paddle course around Lake Maloya. The relay continues with a nearly 20-mile bicycle route and a shotgun shoot. This event is sponsored by the Raton Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with N.M. State Parks. "We are excited to partner with the City of Raton and the National Rifle Association Whittington Center to present this challenging and exciting event," said Sugarite Canyon State Park Superintendent, Robert McIvor. "This is a great way to experience the many different terrains at Sugarite Canyon and challenge yourself for your personal best."

Day-use park fees of $5 apply.

To get to Sugarite Canyon State Park, take I-25 exit 452 at Raton, follow NM 72 east for 3.5 miles, and go north on NM 526 for about 2 miles to the visitor center. For additional information call 575445-5607.
