(MESILLA, NM) €”A free seminar to help military veterans who want to start or expand their own business is being presented on September 14 and 15 in Mesilla through a cooperative effort by the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services, the New Mexico Veterans Business Outreach Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.
Boots to Business: Reboot, an intensive two-day veterans entrepreneurship seminar, will be presented at the popular historic Las Posta de Mesilla Restaurante in Mesilla, located at 2410 Calle de San Albino from 8am-4:30pm on both days. A free lunch will be served on both days.
The event is free for business-minded military veterans, Guard/Reserve members/ transitioning active-duty military personnel and their spouses.
Boots to Business: Reboot is a nationwide effort led by representatives from the SBA's resource partners and industry experts from Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF). It is supported through the SBA's partnership with Syracuse University's IVMF.
Boots to Business: Reboot adapts the curriculum from the SBA's Boots to Business: From Service to Startup program--a training track within the Department of Defense's three-step "Transition, Goals, Plans, Success" (Transition GPS) program specifically developed to introduce transitioning service members to small business ownership. It has since expanded to include veterans who would like to start a business or expand an existing operation.
Attendees will learn how to evaluate business concepts, understand their market, learn about business economics and financing, selecting a correct legal entity, effective strategies for developing a business plan, and many more critical concepts needed for success in the small business world.
In addition, attendees will have a great opportunity to connect with local resource networks, as well as have an opportunity to take advantage of the counseling and training offered by the SBA's resource partner network, which include Veteran Business Outreach Centers, Women's Business Centers, Small Business Development Centers and SCORE.
Though the seminar is free, pre-registration is required.
