National New Mexico Day offers New Mexicans the opportunity to celebrate the Land of Enchantment

Residents to receive free access to New Mexico state parks, museums and historic sites on June 14

SANTA FE — On June 14, 2023, all eyes will be on the Land of Enchantment for National New Mexico Day.

To celebrate, New Mexicans are encouraged to explore the state, try something new, and shop local in honor of the Land of Enchantment. New Mexico residents and New Mexicans at heart can share their favorite pictures, memories and reasons they love New Mexico on social media using #NationalNewMexicoDay.

Additionally, New Mexico residents will get free access to any of the 35 New Mexico state parks or any of the 8 state-operated museums or 7 historic sites on Wednesday, June 14 when they show a valid ID.

New Mexicans are also encouraged to support New Mexico small businesses, artists and merchants on #NationalNewMexicoDay by shopping local. The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) supports over 400 made in New Mexico products through the New Mexico True Certified program, many of which can be found in shops, grocery stores and retail locations throughout the state. In addition, NMTD recently published its annual Summer Gift Guide which includes a catalog of gifts, snacks, trinkets and more that will make Summer days even better. Nearly 100 New Mexico True Certified products are featured in the Summer Gift Guide. New Mexicans looking to spend the day trying something new are encouraged to check out one of the many New Mexico True Certified experiences also supported by the program.

"This is a perfect opportunity to get out to a New Mexico State Park and make memories that will last a lifetime," said Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department Secretary Sarah Cottrell Propst. "With 35 locations in 25 of 33 counties, there is a state park within reach of most New Mexicans, and each park has something unique to offer, so come out to explore someplace new or visit an old favorite!"

“New Mexico’s art, culture, and history are alive at our state museums and historic sites,” said New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Secretary Debra Garcia y Griego. “On National New Mexico Day, and throughout the year, we welcome you to explore and learn more about this diverse and culturally-rich state that we all call home.”

“New Mexico is truly a one-of-a-kind place. National New Mexico Day is a perfect opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the access that we have to so many cultural institutions and outdoor recreation offerings here in the Land of Enchantment,” said Tourism Secretary Jen Paul Schroer. “Taking to social media to share our favorite memories and reasons we love New Mexico can strengthen our camaraderie as New Mexicans no matter where we live.”

The State Parks entrance fee waiver for National New Mexico Day does not include camping or rental fees. Please recreate responsibly and help conserve these special places by leaving no trace.
