Adolf K. Stanzel, was born September 10, 1921 in Hollabrunn, Austria, and passed away November 16th at his home in Silver City, NM. In 1934, he and his sister Herta left Austria to join their parents in Chicago. During WWII, Adolf joined the US Army and served in Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines and Japan. He received his U.S. citizenship while in New Guinea. Following his discharge, Adolf attended the University of Illinois at Champaign and received his Bachelor of Science degree. Once a Cubs fan, always a Cubs fan. His career was spent primarily in aerospace. He worked for the Martin Company in Maryland, then the General Electric Company in Burlington, Vermont and Huntsville, Alabama. He later transferred to Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He retired from Boeing in 1986. While employed by General Electric and Boeing he was contracted out to NASA and designed the engines for the Saturn program and the design work for the early manned space modules. Adolf was a design innovator and quality control specialist. Mourning Adolf's passing is his daughter Linda Overman and her husband Neal of Hanover, NM; Adolf's son, Michael Stanzel and wife Terry; granddaughters, Michelle Stanzel and Tracy Stanzel all of Edgewood, Washington; his sister, Herta Lorenz of New Lennox, Illinois; nieces and nephew of the Chicago area. Also mourning his passing is his friend Doobie, wonderful friend, Ann Koontz and her family and caregiver, Bette Stanzel. A memorial service will be celebrated Monday, November 21st at 2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with military honors.
