David S. Contreras, 71, a resident of Lordsburg, NM entered eternal rest Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. He was born December 11, 1948 in Lordsburg, NM to Jose Luis Contreras and Bonefacia “Bonnie” Soto Contreras. David proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served 25 years and 30 days; received the Bronze Medal Award for distinguishing himself through service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. The medal, adopted in 1944, recognizes outstanding achievement.
He married the love of his life Yolanda Lopez Contreras and of that union two kids were born. His son, David J. Contreras and wife Katrina Silvas of Lordsburg; his kids- Kristin Contreras and Maverick Contreras; three grandchildren, his daughter, Debbie Contreras (Osvaldo Jacquez) of Queen Creek, AZ; her kids-Brittany Corrales, Jordon Jacquez, Brandon Jacquez, and Damion Jacquez; seven grandchildren; many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 19 from 10-10:30am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the holy rosary being recited by Alice Ramirez. The funeral mass will follow at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Jude Okonkwo officiating. Concluding service and interment will take place at Shakespeare cemetery. Pallbearers are Oscar Flores Jr., Sammy Flores, Justin Barker, Ray Saiz, Teddy Medina, and Tim Bravo. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordon Jacquez, Brandon Jacquez, Damion Jacquez, Osvaldo Jacquez, Maverick Contreras, and Jaiden Darnell.
