Edna E. Whitley, age eighty-nine, passed away December 16, 2022 at Gila Regional Medical Center.
Edna is survived by her loving husband, Charles (Chuck) Whitley. A sister, Vesta Hobbs of Kansas. Her children, Nina Clanton, Bill Day, Joe Day, Sara Day, Tonya Matin and Paul Whitley. Along with eight-grandchildren and last but not least (her favorites) nine great-grandchildren who called her GG.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gladys, brother, Harry Lee, twin sisters, Nadine and Geraldine (Jerry) and grandson, Travis Clanton.
Edna did many things throughout her life. She was homemaker, telephone switchboard operator, waitress, cafeteria cook, ranch cook, and water treatment analyst for Phelps Dodge at the Playas Smelter. After retirement she enjoyed gardening and quilting, which led to being a member of the Southwest Quilt Guild and winning some awards for her fabulous quilts.
Cremation was entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels and her ashes were interred at Fort Bayard National Cemetery in a columbium vault where her husband will be placed as well.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10am at Baca’s Funeral Chapels, 3805 Delk Dr., Silver City, New Mexico. A reception will follow at Chamber of Commerce Center in Silver City.
