soteloMaria del Rosario Sotelo, 45, a resident of Silver City, NM, entered eternal rest Friday, March 3, 2023, at Gila Regional Medical Center, in Silver City, NM. She was born to her mother Helen Valencia on August 3, 1977 in Eagle Pass, Texas.  

Maria "Chayo" Rosario Sotelo was a daughter, sister and Mother. She had a love for her family and friends. She was an avid raiders fan and loved the color purple. Maria was also an animal lover. The love of her life was her dog "Tank" who was always with her. Maria hustled all her life to keep going even in the end she fought to stay alive. She gave love freely and helped anyone and everyone who needed her. It is with overwhelming sadness that her family and friends had to say goodbye.

She is survived by her husband Charles Ornelas; her parents Daniel Salaiz and Helen Valencia Salaiz of Mimbres, NM; her two sons, Angel and Victor Ornelas of Mimbres, NM; her daughter, Dominque Sotelo Ornelas of Santa Clara, NM; her brothers, Simon Sotelo, Daniel (Bethany) Salaiz Jr. of Silver City, NM; her sister Monica (Antonio Romo) Salaiz of Santa Clara, NM; her grandson, Baby Angel Ornelas; her special uncle, Johnny R. Valencia; her two nieces, Layne and Angelica Sias; her two nephews Rayden and Daniel Clyde Salaiz; and her love of her life, her dog, Tank.  She was preceded in death by her hero, her grandfather Jesus J. Valencia; her brother Ronnie Salaiz; and her loving grandmother, Lupe R. Mendoza.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 5:00-6:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. Funeral service will commence at 6:00pm with Pastor Clyde Woods officiating.
